The E-516 is a microprocessor-controlled interface and display module with integrated 20-bit D/A converters and IEEE 488 & RS-232-ports.

The E-516 can be computer-controlled with more than 20 ASCII commands that are interpreted and executed by the internal DSP. Each of the output channels can be addressed individually. The E-516 provides an effective output resolution of 20-bits. Additional 20-bit A/D converters read the PZT voltage and position.

Communication / Command Set
For computer communication, both RS-232 and IEEE 488 interfaces are installed. The E-516 support the PI General Command Set. To reduce your programming effort in the face of complex multi-axis positioning tasks, PI has introduced the PI General Command Set. All new controllers for motors and actuators will understand the commands of this set, either directly or through the use of command libraries which translate the standardized commands to low-level instructions to save communications time and/or bandwidth. The PI General Command Set is valid for different devices, and multiple devices can be controlled from one host PC with one or more interfaces.

Operation
The E-516 can be used for both static and dynamic operation. Any desired functions can be uploaded to the internal data tables and executed per software command. Windows® operating software, DLLs and LabView® drivers are included.

WaveEditor-Function Generator

The E-516 has a built-in wave generator which can store up to 8192 data points for each channel. These values can then be output output at a rate of 20 kHz. Alternatively, the output can also be controlled by an external signal and programmed for point-by-point, line-by-line or full-scan triggering.

The wave point values can be calculated with the included function generator. With the WaveEditor's graphic interface software, you need only choose the desired function and set the parameters to the values you need. Your wave is displayed on the screen as you edit it, before being output. The WaveEditor is also availble as a DLL and can be called up from all the E-516 driver sets (LabView®), COM server, DLL) and from the PZTControl user interface software. Selected and edited parameters may be saved for later use.
